The most common experience for beginners is to have a dream in which they become LUCID for only a brief moment and then they awaken. So don't be surprised if your first lucid dream is rather short-lived.
A common first experience may be as SHORT AND SIMPLE as realizing you are dreaming, yelling at the top of your lungs, 'I DID IT!' and then waking up in your bed.
For some reason, excessive amount of EXCITABILITY and INTENSE EMOTIONS will often wake a beginner right from his/her lucid dream. But it is just that intensity that will result in aborting the whole lucid dream.
The first most important thing for beginners is to learn to avoid getting OVERLY EXITED.
You have to believe that with TIME and EXPERIENCE you will be able to handle more and more intensity without losing your focus or your lucidity.

People are mystified by the need for sleep. Why do we turn ourselves off for eight hours out of twenty-four? Some likely answers are to restore the body and mind, and to keep us out of trouble during the dark hours.
LUCID DREAMERS are more aware of their real situation, they know they are dreaming thus we can say they are AWAKE IN THEIR DREAMS.

Our brain maintains an up-to-date model of what's going on in the world and predicts what may happen in the future.

Hi, I just needed guidance. I am doing meditation from last few days. Initially i use to see dots of white light when I close my eyes then one day i saw flame shaped thing just above my right eye and it changed colours i could clearly see colours initially it was yellow then orange then red then darkblue then dark blue with purple boundary after which i had headache for whole day. Now after that incident 3 days later i mean today i woke up at 4.30 ... i did my casual work with meditation then i was relaxing and i guess i slept around 8 in morning i saw a visible door of light and black shadow entering it. When I woke up i could sense severe vibrations in my body when i opened my eyes for 10 secs my head was swirling round. Then after that i called my friend again i slept then i was dreaming something...(continued)
High lucidity is a stage where a person has such a high level of consciousness that he can do what he wants. really literally It is almost the ultimate form of the phenomenon. Colors seem nicer, the person feels very good and has all of the whole dream world under control. Anything you can think of, is possible in principle. This is the form that one can go out on research and everything can get what is inside from the dream world.
I want that. Why it's so hard for me to have lucid dreams? :(
