A short walk through the woods

Posted over 12 years ago , by Almos

It was one of my later journeys; it began when I was lying in bed in the early morning, after awakening from sleep. All of a sudden I saw a picture of a road going through the forest; in the next instance the barrier between me and the picture was broken and I found myself standing on the road.

There were people there; they seemed to be refugees or otherwise running from some kind of undefined danger. I remember them wearing backpacks. Having no other specified plans, I joined them.

We walked along the road for some time; then we turned to the right, where a path ran up the forested hill. The woods were dense and dark, and the sky above us was overcast. At one point we stopped to rest; there was a precipice before me, and staring down into it I could see the dark woods below. For a moment I was gripped with fear of falling, but then I reminded myself that I'm in the altered state, and the fall shouldn't do any damage to the body that lay safely in bed in the world next door.

We passed through the hills and arrived at the town on the opposite side. There I parted with my companions and started to explore the town; I entered what appeared to be school, though rather empty and deserted, and then my trance was broken and I found myself back in my bed in the fields we know.

Not the most spectacular journey I've made, but the one that stands out in my memories for some reason. Also, a way of saying hello. :)

Hello Almos :)
Nice experience, I hope you entered into a dream through visualizing the roads in woods :-)
This is really cool, I had a similar experience long back, when I was sleeping I visualized a bird flying in front of me and I started running behind it trying to catch, after sometime I jumped into dream like tearing a curtain and entering into a room.
I still couldn't forget that experience, still in my memories :-)

Thanks for a cool welcome experience ;-)

Happy travels..

Regards,
Praveen

almos, I'm Here for Inner Awakening

I didn't really do any delibarate visualization. Prior to sleep I put myself into trance by staring at a random spot - a kind of self-hypnosis, actually. I used to carry this practice before going to sleep.
The next day after practicing this kind of trance I woke up early in the morning and, in the state near sleep, consciously crossed the treshold between our reality and the visionary world.

Staring at a random spot means a random spot in your room or with closed eyes ?

almos, I'm Here for Inner Awakening

A random spot in the room, with eyes open. I later found that a similar (if not the same) technique is used in hypnosis  - the eyes remain fixed on one spot for a long period of time until the subject enters a trance. The yogic variation of the same practice is called "trataka" (fixed gazing).

Practicing this kind of trance during the day might result in vivid dreams and/or other altered states of consciousness at night or in the early morning, as was the case here. However, it was neither my most dramatic experience, nor it was the most powerful technique I used. The most dramatic experiences were - to me - those that resulted from visualization practices, especially the one described by Claude de Contrecoeur in his work "Conscious Dreaming and Controlled Hallucinations". The interesting thing is that the state of consciousness the author is describing is, par excellence, astral projection, even though he doesn't call it by this name. The technique consists of visualizing a rotating object and keeping this object in one's consciouness for at least half an hour before going to sleep, and then half an hour after waking up at night. Interestingly, the occult author Constantinos describes similar practice as a perequisite to using his system of magical evocation.
