Hi, I'm new here. I've been trying to astral project for the last few weeks without any luck.
Here's some background on me.
I've been meditating and doing yoga for the past year. About a decade ago, I used to experience a lot of sleep paralysis. At first, I didn't know what was happening, and then, at that time, through research I learned about sleep paralysis and the "hallucinations" that come with it. (Do you guys still consider those things hallucinations?)
Since the hallucinations scared me, I wanted to stop the sleep paralysis altogether and did that by sleeping on my side or stomach. So I haven't had any sleep paralysis experiences since then.
Since I've discovered astral projection, I've been over the moon with excitement. I really want to do it! And I thought since I was someone who meditates daily and someone who could probably easily get into sleep paralysis (simply by going back to sleeping on my back), I would be a great candidate for it.
Well... not so much. I've tried almost every technique available. I have very good focus. I don't give up easily. I'm not afraid. I have a strong desire to do it. I just don't understand why I can't get there.
Basically, I lie there most the night, I mean hours and hours, doing these techniques, waiting for my body to fall asleep, and it just won't sleep. I get exhausted from trying and eventually roll over and give up. I feel like if I don't give up, I'll just be awake all night, and I have stuff to do in the morning. I don't want to be a zombie because I stayed up all night waiting for my body to fall asleep. lol.
I've tried doing it in the morning. I've tried taking afternoon naps and doing it. I've tried setting an alarm in the middle of the night, waking up and doing it then. No luck. If my mind is awake, my body does not seem to want to sleep.
I've tried tricking my body into thinking my mind's asleep by ignoring itches and things of that nature. Lying still, clearing my mind. I've focused on objects, I've focused on my third eye, I've focused on stimuli outside my body. I've done the rope method, roll out method, ladder, rocking the astral body, and on and on and on.
I do feel the vibrations, but they don't seem to be the same every time. Sometimes it's just certain body parts that vibrate. Sometimes it feels like electricity in my stomach, like a shock to the core. Sometimes it's more of a calm and all over slow vibration. So lots of vibrations, but I haven't experienced the loud sounds some people report having.
I somewhat wonder if my body won't sleep because it's unaccustomed to sleeping on its back. (I've heard that's the best position for astral projection and also, like I said, it's the only position I've ever experienced sleep paralysis in.) But I know some people project from their sides, so I tried that too. It's more comfortable for sure, but that isn't working either.
The body asleep, mind awake thing just isn't happening. Any advice?
